Welcome, this is Robby, guest blogger. Little Roo and I just returned from the annual father-and-son campout and have a few pictures to share. This year we traveled up to the Arizona "Rim", a mountainous region about an hour north of where we live.

Here we are, Friday afternoon, ready to leave on our adventure. With our early departure, we actually managed to set up our tent this year before dark!

Here's Roo, with a face that was actually darker than it looks in the picture. He claims he tripped and fell in the sand, but I think his dirty face is actually the result of handling some sticks that had been partially burned in a fire. I think the contrast of the sudden camera flash against the darkness of the evening is what made Chap look a little possessed.

Here we are Saturday morning, post-breakfast. Robby and friend Cole have constructed a fishing pole to use in catching crawdads. Leftover sausage from breakfast serves as bait.

Here they go, down to the favored spot on the creek.

Initial attempts are yielding many bites...

... but eventually they do spot a few and bag them, relying on plastic cups rather than the original fishing pole.

While they had at first perched on rocks...

...both end up falling into the water and decide that they might as well take advantage of the increased access to crawdads that wading through the river affords. They are eventually wet from neck to toes.

The final catch: eight fine specimens! (Sharon - Yes, this is the digusting result of their adventures. When they arrived home and dumped these into one of our bowls one of the creatures was still alive. As I was working in the kitchen, I spied it trying to crawl out of the bowl! Fortunately, it was too weak to go anywhere. All I have to say is - YUCK!)

On the way home, we took a short detour and climbed to the top of Mount Ord (7128 ft) in the Mazatzal range. The view at the top was nice, although your view of us is little less so, given how scruffy we were looking at this point. Good times!

Looks like fun, thanks for sharing your adverntures!
I'm not brave enough to go crawdad fishing, but that looks like fun! That one picture of Chap is really scary.
Looks like you had fun! The crawdads gross me out. Sharon, I hope you threw that bowl away. But I'm sure it was an eight year old boy's idea of a really good time. I'm glad I have a little time before Will starts bringing creepy crawly things into the house.
Little Robby, I'll go crawdad fishing with you next time I'm in Arizona. But we'll have to cook them on a campfire and eat them! Mmmmm
